Internship Application 2016-2017
With a few Christmas trees and a truckload of glittering snowflakes, in the winter of 2005 we introduced our event planning organization and support group to the Mid-West homeschooling community. Since then our goal have remained the same; to provide a safe and welcoming environment, with continued support from birth through college. All fees cover the costs of the event location, food, decor, etc. and we take pride in providing your family with an unforgettable custom designed experience. Most events take months to prepare. Everything you see is custom designed and trucked onsite hours ahead of time to give you an amazing and unforgettable night! We make the gift bags, decorations, table setting, scenery, etc. ourselves, which means you haven't seen anything like this before! As the first teen focused family support group in Illinois to offer highly unique opportunities and the first to offer formal dances open to all homeschoolers in Illinois, we take the time to create an amazing night that you and your family will never forget! We currently hold eight main events throughout the school year which are included in our yearly Preferred Membership, which goes on sale in May and June of each year, in addition to several minor events such as, prom-prep workshops, formal wear and accessory shopping, coffee shop get-togethers, meet and greets, beach days, rollerblading, ice skating, family camping trips, 3-D and regular movie nights, and post event munchies. Now over ten years later, we love what we do and we hope you do too! It takes a village, welcome home!
Interns with Teen Activities will gain hands-on skills from invaluable learning experiences based on areas of expertise or interest in areas such as:
- Small and non-profit business skills
- Leadership, mentoring and team building
- Communications, promotions and social media marketing
- Space planning, event décor and scenery design
- Event storage, inventory and logistics
- And much more!
Interns will work approximately 5 or more hours per week alongside our experienced and dedicated founders, Diane and Amanda Keen, planning, supporting and executing a wide range projects for the 2016-2017 calendar year. Interns will gain experience in one or two selected areas of interest as listed above, while learning about all facets of event planning. In return students will earn a general membership for the 2016-2017 and 1 event ticket of your choice (excludes murder mysteries). Interns are expected to respectfully assist all TeenActivities staff and Event Coordinators at all times and TeenActivities reserves the right to remove opportunities at any time if deemed necessary by staff members for interns not upholding the TeenActivities high standard of safety and family support.
Job Description:
- Work closely with (shadow) Event Coordinator on all aspects of event planning, promotion, logistics, on-site execution (set up and tear down) and storage
- Work in teams or individually to procure and organize specific supplies for events
- Assist Event Coordinator with art projects, promotions and favors
- Improve inventory, storage and retrieval system
Required Qualifications:
- Over 16 years old
- Homeschooled fulltime (not counting college coursework) and have reached high school equivalency
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time both indoors and outside
- Ability to follow clear instructions and also work both independently and in teams
- Detail-oriented with a desire to learn
- Strong interest or experience in one or more fields: business, event planning, design, marketing, museum work, library science, education, or art and design
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some college coursework or certificate
- Previous volunteer, internship or work experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), digital cameras, photography and Adobe Photoshop

Teen Activities scholars will receive a general membership valued at $20 and all ticket fees. Annually, three confidential merit or financial scholars will be selected:
- Fall Scholar (Homecoming and Snowflake only)
- Spring Scholar (Valentine Dinner Dance and Prom only)
- Year Scholar (Homecoming, Snowflake, Valentine Dinner Dance and Prom)
Students are encouraged to apply with a completed 2016-2017 participation form and 500+ word essay before the deadline of July 31st, 2016. All applications will selected by the scholarship committee, including founders Diane and Amanda Keen according to essay responses (see below). Selected students will be notified in a private and confidential email from TeenActivities by August 15th; our goal is to treat all students the same, whether or not they receive a scholarship based on merit or financial assistance.
All scholarship recipients are required to come at least two hours early and stay late until cleanup is finished on event days, you are expected to respectfully assist all Teen Activities staff and Event Coordinators at all times. TeenActivities reserves the right to remove previously awarded scholarship opportunities at any time if deemed necessary by staff members for students not upholding the Teen Activities high standard of safety and family support.

- At least 12 years old by the scholarship deadline
- Homeschooled fulltime (not counting college coursework) and have reached high school equivalency

- Share your passion for homeschooling and explain why you are requesting a scholarship with Teen Activities for merit or financial assistance. What you hope to achieve through the scholarship program?
- Describe an influential person, event or life experience. How has this person, event or experience positively changed your life?
- Explain your future academic and/or career goals and any volunteer or extracurricular activities. What do you hope to achieve beyond homeschooling?

- General Membership for one student for the 2016-2017 school year ($20)
- An Event Ticket with General Membership for one student for the 2016-2017 school year ($55)
- Preferred Membership, includes all events and General Membership for one student for the 2016-2017 school year ($250)
